The transport sector – which is the third-largest energy guzzler in Germany – also has to make greater use of clean energy. For this reason, innogy is driving the expansion of electric mobility with the installation of charging points.

Charging times are decreasing

Electric mobility is already far more advanced than most people realise. Thanks to new battery technologies, vehicles are already reaching ranges of up to 500 km – on just one charge. In addition, efficient charging stations allowing users to fill up on enough electricity for 250 km in ten minutes are almost market-ready. innogy operates around 7,000 public charging points in over 20 countries in what is already one of the largest charging networks in Europe.

To meet the challenges of global megatrends such as urbanisation, environmental pollution and a dramatic increase in traffic volumes, Munich start-up eluminocity offers a unique solution – a modular system that combines intelligent street lights with built-in charging stations for electric vehicles.

innogy participated in eluminocity in 2017 as a strategic partner, strengthening the business segment in the field of intelligent street lighting.

The precision sensor technology embedded in the lights is individually customisable and guarantees a secure transfer of data. The street lights also perform a wide range of functions: monitoring environmental factors such as particulate matter, detecting parking spots, measuring speeds or controlling street lighting according to need based on motion detection.

With integrated charging stations in the posts, these street lights help spread new electric mobility concepts and support the transition to electric vehicles. Due to its urban, timeless design, the system can easily be incorporated into existing city infrastructure or simply supplement it.
